Injury Care
Get the care you need for your injury
Get the right care with specific assessment techniques, exercises, and care for your:
- Spine (neck, upper back, lower back-pelvis, headaches)
- Upper limb (shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand)
- Lower limb (hip, knee, ankle-foot)
When recovering from an injury, getting the basics right ensures you recover well and avoid future problems.
Injury care involves examining the injury and addressing the situation. Some injuries may need minimal intervention, while others may require scans, investigations, and consulting other health practitioners. We can help you get braces, supports, crutches, and tape, and refer you to a trusted health practitioner if needed.
1. Initial Care and Assessment
- Professional Diagnosis: Seek assessment from a physiotherapist or healthcare professional to identify the exact nature and severity of the injury.
- Rest and Pain Management: Avoid movements that aggravate pain and use ice/heat therapy as advised.
- Imaging and Testing: For serious injuries, X-rays, MRIs, or other diagnostic tests may be required.
2. Targeted Rehabilitation
Each problem area needs something different. It could be hands on treatment, stretches and mobility exercises, strengthening deep/postural or larger superficial muscles or alignment exercises.
3. Lifestyle Modifications
Often, when you have an injury, things you did prior to injury can then cause you problems. Modifying these can help reduce the severity of your problem and how long your problem lasts for.
- Ergonomic Adjustments: Set up proper workspace ergonomics and avoid prolonged sitting or other repetitive activity.
- Activity Modifications: Gradually return to physical activity with guided support.
- Education: Learn proper movement mechanics to avoid re-injury and promote long-term health.
Common Spine Injuries or Problems.
- Back Pain: General pain in the upper, middle, or lower back, often from muscle strain.
- Neck Pain: Pain in the neck area, which can result from poor posture or injury.
- Herniated Discs: When the soft inner part of a disc pushes out through a tear, causing pain or numbness.
- Spinal Stenosis: Narrowing of the spinal canal, leading to pain or weakness in the back or legs.
- Sciatica: Pain along the sciatic nerve, running from the lower back down one or both legs.
- Degenerative Disc Disease: Wear and tear of spinal discs over time, causing chronic pain and reduced flexibility.
- Compression Fractures: Small fractures in the vertebrae, often due to osteoporosis, causing pain and a hunched posture.
Your spine supports your whole body. Spine problems can lead to chronic pain and reduced mobility. Whether from an acute injury or a chronic condition, addressing spine issues quickly is important. Our therapies aim to restore function, reduce pain, and improve your overall well-being.
Common upper limb injuries or problems include:
Common upper limb injuries or problems include:
- Shoulder Impingement: When shoulder tendons are compressed, causing pain and limited movement.
- Tennis Elbow: Pain on the outside of the elbow from overusing forearm muscles and tendons.
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand due to compressed wrist nerve.
- Rotator Cuff Tears: Tears in shoulder muscles and tendons, causing pain and weakness.
- Bursitis: Inflammation of small fluid-filled sacs (bursa) in joints, often in the shoulder, elbow, or hip.
- Tendonitis: Inflammation of tendons from repetitive strain, especially in the shoulder, elbow, or wrist.
- De Quervain's Tenosynovitis: Painful condition affecting thumb-side wrist tendons from repetitive movements.
Your upper limbs are essential for daily activities. Injuries or problems here can affect your ability to do tasks, whether at work or home. From sports injuries to repetitive strain, our treatments focus on restoring strength, flexibility, and functionality to your upper limbs.
Common lower limb injuries or problems include:
- Hip Bursitis: Inflammation of the bursa in the hip, causing pain during movement.
- Knee Osteoarthritis: Wear and tear of the knee cartilage, leading to pain and reduced mobility.
- Plantar Fasciitis: Pain in the heel due to inflammation of the tissue running across the bottom of the foot.
- Shin Splints: Pain along the shinbone from repetitive stress, common in runners.
- Achilles Tendonitis: Inflammation of the Achilles tendon, causing pain and stiffness, especially in the morning.
- Hamstring Strain: Injury to the hamstring muscles, resulting in pain and difficulty walking or running.
- Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome: Pain around the kneecap from overuse or misalignment, also known as "runner’s knee."
- Ankle Sprains: Stretching or tearing of ankle ligaments, causing pain and swelling.
- Stress Fractures: Small cracks in the bone from overuse, affecting the lower leg and foot bones.
The lower limbs, including hips, knees, and feet, are crucial for movement and balance. Injuries here can make walking and standing difficult and painful. Our rehab plans address these needs, helping you recover and move with confidence.
